Focus Group Overview

A focus group is a unique and incredibly useful research technique to collect data through group interaction. These are sometimes referred to as group interviews. Focus groups compromise of a small number of carefully selected people to discuss and explore subject areas or provide feedback on specific products. Focus groups are used to identify and then explore how people think and behave.

We bring focus groups and disability together. We provide a safe space to explore disability issues and best practice to generate comprehensive feedback and insight for organisations to incorporate into their services, operations and policies.

Focus Group Information

What could a focus group help with?

  • To increase organisational understanding of a specific disability or disability more widely
  • To source feedback from disabled individuals on a particular process or policy, for example, recruitment and retention policy, reasonable adjustment processes, company website etc.
  • To source feedback on your organisations products and services for disabled consumers to better target and capture the “Purple Pound”, the spending power of disabled households
  • To tackle a particular internal challenge when it comes to disability, for example, low disability declaration rates, low representation of disabled staff at senior levels, accessibility issues etc.
  • To source feedback on the external perception of your organisation and how better to engage and reach disabled applications and customers

What is included?

  • A fully facilitated session up to one-hour
  • A carefully selected group of talented and insightful disabled participants to explore particular subject areas or provide feedback on a specific product in relation to disability
  • Support in collating the key insights and the suggested next steps following the session
  • Advice and support from Disability Connect and the potential to explore areas further with the focus group participants via another focus group or a 1-2-1

Logistics

Focus groups typically take place online via Microsoft Teams. Face-to-face focus groups can be held depending on your location and requirements, for example, to test a certain product.

Up to four representations from your organisation can attend to ask questions and listen to the unique insights and first-hand experience of disability.
