21st Annual Meeting of the OTS: October 2025

Steven was invited to speak at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society (OTS) in Budapest, joining scientists, clinicians and patient representatives from around the world to explore the latest developments in RNA and DNA-based therapies.


The discussion focused on the realities of living with SMA Type 3, the decision-making process around treatment, the practicalities of lumbar puncture injections, and the impact of treatment on day-to-day life, including improved fatigue management, reduced pain, and greater stability. This was followed by a Q&A session. 


INSTITUTE OF STUDENT EMPLOYERS ANNUAL CONFERENCE: JUNE 2024

Steven was invited to be part of a panel with Helen Cooke and Damian Riley to discuss embracing disabled talent as part of the Institute of Student Employers annual conference.  

 

The discussion focussed on how to improve inclusivity for disabled talent through application and onboarding including asking if candidates need any adjustments with every communication and to provide examples of how you can support them to encourage trust.

Steven delivered a session on the value of mentoring in overcoming challenges to a group of OU students, staff and employers. It was fantastic to gain insight from his own personal experience as well as guidance on what makes a strong mentoring relationship. We welcome him back to any OU events.


The Open University

Disability Connect provided five training sessions over five weeks that covered neurodiversity, mental health, long term conditions and more. The sessions were very informative, with good interaction and used practical real life examples and case studies

Steven's Neurodiversity session during Learning at Work Week was informative and practical. He shared key insights, stats, and strategies we could use right away. His thoughtful approach showed how small changes can foster a more inclusive, supportive environment. Thank you, Steven!

The speaking sessions opened my eyes to the range of disabilities and that reasonable adjustments are not always physical, or expensive. It gave me a new perspective on disability.

The whole session was very well delivered, it was clear and covered so much. It had a really knowledgeable and open speaker and the stats in particular were incredibly useful and informative. It felt like a genuinely safe space to ask questions and not worry about saying the wrong thing!
